No. 6 Burgstraße – Mozart on a visit to Munich

Towards the end of the 18th century Munich was a playground for distinguished composers and virtuosos. Two composers from that era whose reputations have been outshone by those of the “Viennese classics”, but who made Munich appear an extremely attractive place for a young musician from Salzburg by the name of Mozart form the focal point of this concert. However, they too made their names not in Munich, but elsewhere: Toeschi in Paris, Beecke in Vienna and at Wallerstein as conductor to the music-mad Prince of Oettingen-Wallerstein. Their works, highly regarded at the time, remain to be discovered anew and enjoyed once again in our day. Rediscovering them re-awakens the esteem in which Beecke and Toeschi were held by their famous contemporaries, Haydn and Mozart.
